"Digital" Literacy

There are lots of definitions of digital literacy that include searching the web and evaluating websites. But I deal with those under other headings. My definition involves helping users deal with information that comes in a digital format. This includes how to store and retrieve information as well as how to use software features that allow users to interact with digital text. In addition, I've included a link to information on copyright and fair use for librarians.

Storing/RetrievingWebsites: The best place to store your favorites is online using one of the free bookmarking websites. PortaPortal is probably that easiest to use, especially for students. Delicious is a new collaborative tool that uses keywords.

Storing/Retrieving Documents: Often schools provide server space where users can save their documents so they can be accessed from anywhere in the building. Users may need help learning to create folders for organizing their documents and then accessing them.
