History-Grade 3: Exploration of the Americas

Standard 3.3
The student will study the exploration of the Americas by
a) describing the accomplishments of Christopher Columbus, Juan Ponce de Léon, Jacques Cartier, and Christopher Newport;
b) identifying reasons for exploring, the information gained, and the results from the travels.

Pacing Guide – 4 Weeks (2 -30 min sessions per week, includes an all-day field trip to Jamestown)

Objectives-
3.3.1The students will be able to describe the role of the Indians in the settlement of Jamestown.
3.3.2 The students will be able to describe how the Indians hunted and gathered food.
3.3.3 The students will be able to describe a typical meal an Indian child would have eaten and how it was prepared.

Strategies-

For each objective we will read aloud and discuss the content related to each of the content areas in the 3 objectives; role of the Indians in the settlement of Jamestown, how the Indians hunted and gathered food, a typical meal an Indian child would have eaten and how it was prepared. We will also use videos I can find ( I hope!) that relate to the topic.

Assessment-

Students will answer true-false items related to Indian life.
