Conclusion

The purpose of this webquest is to help administrators in Virginia learn how to use a variety of online resources to improve instruction in their schools. The alignment process can be long and difficult but is absolutely essential for increasing student learning and achievement.

One part of the plan on which we did not focus was the resources used by the teachers and students. For the most part, these plans use traditional paper- and pencil-based tools like textbooks and overhead transparencies. They did not take advantage of newer, computer-based technologies to help enhance learning.

Now that you know something about how to align curriculum and design instruction, let's think about how we can integrate technology into these lessons. We've created two webquests that helps educators locate and evaluate instructional resources. The first one is interactive and based on one of the lesson plans about The Scarlet Letter. The second one begins with a typical fourth grade science lesson plan and takes users through the process of finding web-based and software resources to support instruction.
